Purpose/Abstract

The Advancing Innovative Math Solutions (AIMS) Collaboratory is a community of practice made up of mathematics education researchers, practitioners, and ed-tech solution providers.

A hub entity, the Facilitation Team, organizes the Collaboratory, while external technical support providers, known as Learning Partners, and advisory boards made up of researchers, educators, and youth also provide support.

The presentation draws on three strands of research to support AIMS’ thinking about complex systems change: communities of practice, collective impact, and inclusive innovation.

Seeing AIMS as a community of practice means intentionally building relationships, trust, shared values, and a shared vision to support community and collaboration.

Drawing from collective impact, AIMS focuses on creating impact at multiple levels through separate but coordinated efforts.

From inclusive innovation, AIMS has adopted an approach that prioritizes district needs and centers teacher voice throughout the research and development process, with the goal of dismantling systemic inequities and creating more equitable educational opportunities for youth.
