Purpose/Abstract

This blog post describes three research-backed strategies teachers can use to support student learning outcomes on Khan Academy.

The first strategy is to embrace Course Mastery Goals. The post explains that teachers who set Course Mastery Goals saw students level up more skills and perform better on an external assessment compared with teachers who relied exclusively on assignments or did not use either feature.

The second strategy is to use supplemental assignments sparingly. The post notes that assignments can be useful when used in conjunction with Course Mastery Goals, especially when they address content or learning needs not already covered by the Course Mastery Goal.

The third strategy is to maintain consistency. Teachers who maintained a regular usage pattern saw better outcomes both on Khan Academy, such as skills level-ups, and on an external assessment, such as MAP Growth.

The post concludes that teachers can support student learning by prioritizing Course Mastery Goals, using supplemental assignments judiciously, and establishing consistent weekly platform use.
